"Repent ye, and believe the gospel" - Mark 1:15

I was born back in Glasgow,
Yeah in th' year 44'

  1. I was born back in Glasgow, Yeah in th' year 44',
    Right on th' wave O' the second world war;
    Th' fight'n never ended, th' then fight for survival,
    Battleships and soldiers broken, left t' dismantle.
  2. Th' steel mills and shipyards, th' mines and th' pain,
    Hard-graft'n men wit' steel in their spine;
    Th' beer n' th' whisky killed more than th' war,
    But it sure did numb an' cover many a scar.
  3. Th' grime an' th' Gorbals, th' fightin' and th' killin',
    Filth and squalor, disease and die'n;
    A City O' culture? No, survival was th' game,
    Th' war? Th' politics? Who knows, we're all t' blame.
  4. Back in Glasgow, Yeah back in th' year 44,
    Th' back door O' th' second world war;
    We grew wit' th' heartache, th' loss' an' th' pain,
    We all sure promised it'd never ever happen again.
