Jacob\'s dutiful son reminds of an even more dutiful Son, the one from heaven. Jacob himself the sending father reminds us of another Father, the heavenly One. Their hearts reflect the heavenly love also. The destructive brothers of Joseph give us an insight into the depravity of the natural man's heart, showing us the only way it can be altered is by God Himself. On top of all this, the devastating news received by Jacob concerning his son Joseph, touches him in the very depths of his being, broken-hearted, will he ever feel again, will he ever be able to rejoice in his covenant God again?
05/10/2008 - Evening Luke 19:41-48 If Thou Hadst Known
Even at this late stage there is a possibility of peace with God for the Jews, but the door of grace is closing fast, who'll get through it before it finally closes? The closure is coming Jesus says, with such cataclysmic results, not a man, women or child, not a stone will be left untouched in God's judgment upon them! The second symbolic act in Jerusalem, the holy City, the Lord of the Temple comes to it and finds a market place, and den of thieves instead of a place of divine spiritual worship. What will he do with it? What will he do with churches today that bear no resemblance to spiritual worship? Listen and learn!

Gospel means good news, but it's only good news if you see yourself in the mirror of God's word. The mirror on the wall's a liar, it only sees the outside, the image. God looks on the heart, what he sees is not nice, sin. But the good news is he, in love, has done something to remedy the heart problem.

What are the qualities for any church officer? Well, here Paul makes it clear. He's a man not on his own, he has other brethren officers, pluraity, no one-man bands. He's a man of integrity, one wife, no sexual laxity. He is a man who knows, stands upon the truth of God's word, and implements the same in the body of Christ.

28/09/2008 - Morning Genesis 37:1-11 They Hated Him Without a Cause
Joseph wasn\'t just the preferred son of Jacob, he was the favourite of heaven. He testified to what God prophetically revealed to him, causing the wrath, malice and hatred of his brothers, which in the over-ruling providence of God was the means of bring about exactly what happened to Joseph. He was taken through the crucible, but all the way he knew the end was glory, was exaltation, he believed what God had revealed to him.

In a symbolic act, riding an asses colt into Jerusalem the King comes to present himself to the royal City. He\'s coming, but, he\'s not the King they want or expect. They are looking for a political figure to engage in an earthly reign. delivering them from the power of Rome. This King is coming to die!

What on earth can you get out of a list of names? You would be surprised! Then maybe not, because it\'s God\'s word. The dreadful consequences for Esau\'s family as a result of his unchanged heart, still contemptuous towards God and his covenant. But, if God keeps his promise to an ungodly man, and he does, how much more will he keep his word to his own covenant people?
21/09/2008 - Evening Luke 19:11-27 When the King Returns
He is going away into a far country, to be crucified raised, ascended, but after a long time he will come back again. In the meantime he has left something behind, that\'s common to all in his church, his word. When he returns, what will they have done with it. Some will have openly refuted, rejected it, and they will be judged accordingly. His own covenant children, will they have used his word faithfully, wisely and fruitfully, their degree of reward will hang on this one factor, not the fruitfulness, but their faithfulness, to that word.

The unchangeable Saviour\\\'s desire for obdurated, impenitent sinners in Jerusalem is that they would find the way of peace, himself that is. Has he changed? Is he not the Lord that changes not? Is not his heart cry today, that you should find the way of peace?

The worship of the covenant community is a reflection of God\'s face in to the world. When we don\'t worship God according to his own agenda, we alter his face. When we reduce it to a rock n roll fest the clear message we give the world is that God\'s just like them. He\'s not!
14/09/2008 - Evening Luke 19:1-10 Seeking & Saving the Lost
The sinner was seeking himself, he had the right attitude and he sought in the right place, where the Saviour could be found. But all this, only because there was a Saviour who was seeking him. All the while Zaccheus was known to God, from eternity. He got saved! There was strong evidence to back this up, the restitution he was willing, desired to make evinced the reality of his faith in Jesus. He was restored to God\'s covenant favour.
07/09/2008 - Morning John 21:1-25 Peter's Fall & Restoration
It was his self-confidence, self-assurance that contributed to Peter's downfall. But the Saviour in grace comes in a confrontational manner, not to condemn or destroy but in order to restore him to his rightful place as a disciple and apostle of Jesus Christ.
24/08/2008 - Morning Genesis 35:1-8 The Return to God
God speaks a Fatherly rebuke to Jacob, sending him back to Bethel where he ought to have been a while back. His fellowship with God is restored and reformation takes place within the covenant family, and again the blessing begins to flow.

With a persistent faith which expected help from and embraced and exalted Christ, his request was granted and more. In faith he declared Jesus to be the Son of David, Messiah, and Jesus concurred with a miraculous sign, demonstrating himself, indeed to be who and what Bartimaeus confessed him to be, the Messiah.
17/08/2008 - Morning Genesis 34:20-31 Thou Shalt Not Kill, Nor Steal
The proposed peace deal of the shechemites is simply a means of gratifying their own lust, the cultural genocide of Israel. It is not to add to Israel, or extend the true knowledge of God, but bring Israel down to their heathen idolatry and away from God. Yet the massacre and the pillaging enacted by Jacob\'s sons can in no way be condoned or justified. All the cost, the result of a man, jacob, not being right with his God.
17/08/2008 - Evening Luke 18:31-34 Living On Death Row
God\'s revelation in the Old Testament predicted the sufferings of the Saviour, now about to be accomplished. He, himself prophesies here his being hand over the Gentiles, the Romans, to the world\'s judiciary, where openly and legally they would pronounce him innocent, yet kill him. After the third day he would be vindicated by his resurrection from the dead. Christ mad full complete satisfaction for the sins of his people.

The folly, the wickedness of sexual sin, so prevalent in the church today. The Folly of ungodly mergers, ecumenical madness, interfaith lunacy. The folly, the wickedness of sacramental deceit, circumcised, or baptised paganism. Such wickedness ought not to be wrought in the church today, any day.
10/08/2008 - Evening Luke 18:18-30 The Iniquitous Power of Wealth
See here the Saviour engage in proper, thorough evangelistic preaching. With a penetrating appliction of the Law, which alone reflects absolute goodness, the moral excellence of God himself. But the power of the self life, the things of this life, exclude this man from the eternal life he so superficially enquired after. But if it\'s impossible for a rich man to enter, who then can be saved. For we all desire riches, so who then can be saved, and how? Listen and find out!
08/08/2008 - Afternoon Exodus 20:3 No Other God's
God warns, threatens, promises & commands. The entirety of his revelation is given for our benefit. That we might know our true selves, what are really like, sinful. And they may cause us to see our greatest need, a Saviour. So there's vices prohibited and there's virtues promoted, all to make us wise unto salvation, through faith, which is in Jesus Christ.
06/08/2008 - Afternoon Haggai 2:6-9 The Shaking of All Things
The One with the power shake the universe, in a little while, will arrest the attention of all the nations. When he says come, the elect out of everyone of them, will come. The same God possesses all that\'s required for the furtherance of his kingdom, and shall provide it. His peace shall progress from this seemingly insignificant work, the unfolding glory of his grace shall spread through the nations, till that moment, the grand finally, the consummation of his kingdom, with the second advent of the Son of God.

The Pharisee, went to pray, but never made it into the presence of God. He went home satisfied, self-satisfied. The Publican with his agonising cry pierced the holy of holies, the very heart of God. He went home justified, justified by God. The Pattern? Childlike, unassuming simpicity and unquestioning trust.

Jacob commits his way to the Lord, then with luxurious gifts, seek to appease Esau. The fear\'s not yet broken, but in solitary communion with his Lord, he contends and conquers, he comes out with a new name as a new day dawns and with a new hope and future. God was determined this man\'s life not be wasted.

It's never been any different, Noah, Lot's day, they, who heeded God's warnings and trusted in God's saving grace were taken, the others were left to their doom. It will, says Jesus, be no different on the day when he comes again, the believers will be taken to be with the Lord, the others left.

The oil of consolation\'s poured into their minds in being reminded of who & what they are as believers, so close, so precious, so valuable to God.

Satan, a spirit being, need flesh & blood characters such as Laban to do his work harassment against Jacob, God\\\'s servant. In like fashion he pursues him, accuses him. But God has the devil on a chain, he is only allowed to go so far and no further.

They were, like many Christians today, antinomian, lawless!

That God deals with men by way of covenant is an established biblical fact. That covenant is more, much more than just a means to and end, to salvation. It is more than that, it is a pledge for God to be our God and that of our children, eternally.
