Yes, there are evidences of God's judgment upon our nation now. What are those evidences and what ought we to be doing besides wakening up to the reality of this fact? These evidences are not in any particular order.
Because people and Churches are undisturbed, things go on as always, it is put down to God's great patience, forbearance, His delaying a thing. A delay does not mean a thing is forgotten or forgiven, in fact the longer it is delayed the sorer the punishment when it comes.
The spirit of conviction and conversion is restrained, the power and the blessings of the gospel are withdrawn. The fruits and the effects of the gospel are not to be seen. The majority of people are deadened, darkened or hardened under both gospel ordinances and God's providences.
The grace of preaching is gone. The gift remains and we content ourselves with the gift without the grace. This is why the gospel is so ineffectual in our land today.
The confessional foundations are eroded. They are there in word, but not proclaimed nor upheld. The Church is a strange building today, unrecognisable to former generations, lacking foundation, i.e., Liberal/Arminian ethos. All is built on religious sand.
The masses of young people in rising generations, how many of them in their right minds? And how many with their faces heavenward? The majority are carried down the stream on the current of utter profanity.
Heretics are suffered to continue in ministry, poisoning people with their pens (Chalke and Yancey?), with no censure, deprivation or excommunication, that would terrify others from such departures.
Unregenerate ministers abound, that teach salvation by works, they have not entered themselves and them that are entering they hinder.
A spirit of confusion and division amidst God's own people.
The Lord comes to judge His people, sometimes as a moth, sometimes as a lion. The former is our case. Gradually unseeing to us, eating, devouring bit by bit. And though the causes of His anger are great and many, yet how many are fasting, mourning, sighing, crying for our lands abominations. How many ministers give example to their people in praying against the idolatry, the filth, and profanity, both in Church and Nation?
The nation led by effeminate government, led by boys and women Isaiah 4:3 Isaiah 4:6. This Judgement is reflected in Government, in the Church and society in general. The men dress and speak like women and the women dress and speak like men.
The effusion of homosexuality Romans 1:21-24. Christians say God must judge the nation because of the homosexuality. The uncleanness Isaiah 4:3; Isaiah 4:12 'is' the judgement. The marks of the fall of every great empire and nation in history. The pride, the drunkenness, the gluttony, the debauchery, homosexuality and then the end.
The emergence of Islam. Israel were told one of the signs that God's judgement had arrived was the sound of tongues, foreign languages in their midst 1 Corinthians 14:21-22, they would not listen to God's voice, so He says you will pay heed to the voice of foreigners. In the UK we have refused the overtures of God's righteous declarations, so he has said, you will hear Me through the lips of foreigners, tongues, even that of Islam. It's own stated agenda is that the black flag of Islam will fly over 10 Downing Street, London. The Shariah Law, Shariah law in Britain? A possibility? More than. This is now a nation that will only answer to judgement, "hear ye the rod, and Who hath appointed it" Micah 6:9. Even as I write, today, six Conservative MP's' conferring in London have come out with a statement, "Islam is absolutely right, this is a degenerate nation, the drunkenness, immorality, violence and debauchery of the British people is deplorable."
Apostasy, in a word, departure from the word of God's righteousness. But before you start to flay the nation remember the apostasy began in the Church, not the nation. And remember too, judgement begins in the Church, not the nation. Repentance of a very deep nature is required.
The possibility of England and Scotland being scourged by foreigners as a result of our apostasy is a very real one. The Chaldeans are already here, Habakkuk revisited. Alas our weapons are not swords, guns nor yet even our tongues, but the spirit of prayers and tears, these are the saints weapons. Alexander Peden (1626-26 January 1686), during the 'Killing Time' (1680 and 1688) in Scotland was asked to preach. He refused. But said he would pray for them. He said, "you can have Muckle preaching and good preaching at that, but it'll do no good at all till the judgement be lifted." It's not preaching we need in the UK today, it's praying, every meeting turned into a prayer meeting, hearts crying out to God Almighty for mercy. But then we don't even know how to do that, but we will have to learn, and fast.
"Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines, etc., etc., Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation" Habakkuk 3:17-18. Why? Because, "the just shall live (survive the judgement of God) by his faith" Habakkuk 2:4.
